It's been WAY. TOO. LONG

So. I haven't updated in forever. Months. I debated whether I should even update now. I WISH I would start writing regularly. That would be awesome. But I know I won't. Maybe someday.

But I couldn't log into my blog without at least making note of the amazing news of baby #5. This isn't new news.....I'm 15 weeks pregnant today.

This poor baby. We are BEYOND excited about adding this little one to our family, but unfortunately this baby doesn't get as much "blog-time" as the other kids have gotten. So I needed to at least make Baby 5's presence known in blog-world.

We find out gender in 3 1/2 weeks : ) I'll try to update again then. Maybe. Maybe not.

Important reminders.

SO, as usual, it's been awhile. Too long.

I've wanted to sit down and write several times, but there are always other things higher on the priority list....even now, there are so many things that need to be done, but I just needed to get my thoughts down tonight...I need to record the things that God is reminding me tonight, so that I can come back and remember these things.

Current status:
*Kenzie: She has had a fever for 4 full days + runny nose. Thankfully only 1 really sick/pukey day.
*Ryken: So far, so good.
*Casey: Fever on and off last week....fussy....now congested/snotty/coughing. Plus as a new walker/climber he is getting into EVERYTHING.
*Emery: Ditto Casey....plus more fever today. Getting in EVERYTHING x2.

ADD TO THAT:
*At 12 1/2 months the boys STILL haven't slept through the night.
*NEVER-ENDING MOUNDS of housework...I never even get close to being caught up. 4 small children are able to rip everything apart MUCH faster than I can put it back together.
*Date night tomorrow night: canceled due to sick babysitters & sick kids. BUM-MER.

There is more I'm sure....I'm pretty much on the verge of a giant pity party. But that's where this blog comes in.....right when I'm about to start sulking and being miserable, God is being faithful. He is reminding me that my circumstances aren't nearly as bad as I want to believe. Here are how the thoughts in my head are working:

*Ahh...poor me with all the sick kids...BUT this sickness WILL go away. This sickness isn't THAT bad. My mind actually wanders to the sick kids in other countries....like babies battling Malaria in Ethiopia. The sickness my babies face doesn't even compare. I don't have any room to complain. I'm not fearing for their lives. I KNOW it will get better, sooner than later, and I will probably not even really remember this week in a few months.

*Canceled date night: What about the MILLIONS of people who never get a "date night" at all. I think in a way, it is reminding me that I don't NEED to go out on dates. I think in a way I've been lied to for awhile. I feel like I hear everywhere that it is SO important to keep "going out" and keep "dating" to keep your marriage strong. I'm starting to rethink things. I won't let "going out" be something I NEED. It is nice. It is fine. But we don't NEED it. And the disappointment when it doesn't happen needs to be something I get over FAST. There are people all over this world who have SO much less than I have and yet I want to sit and sulk and grumble and complain that I won't get to leave my home for a couple of hours. I am thankful for my family. I am thankful that I get to take care of my precious babies...even if it means NEVER getting a break. I am thankful for my home and the numerous COMFORTS & LUXURIES of my home.

I need to remember these things. I need to be thankful. The circumstances have been set before me....I can choose how I will respond. Everything in my flesh is ready to get the pity-party underway....but thankfully, I have Jesus and I have the Holy Spirit in my heart....and He is so much bigger, so much more.

So tonight, not by my own strength, but through the strength of the One who satisfies, I will not only CANCEL the pity party in my heart....I will be throwing a big CELEBRATION instead, praising and thanking my Lord and my God.

Better late than never....

So.

Here I am.

FINALLY.

My plan of setting a goal failed, apparently. It probably wasn't the smartest thing on my part to have the "end date" of the goal be the night before I left on a week long, whirlwind trip around the midwest with 7 month old twins....I definitely THOUGHT about blogging in those last days of August. My "goal" was in my mind. But I was scrambling trying to get things ready to go and have things ready for Chip and the kids here at home. So, the blog, once again, got pushed to the bottom of the list....and I never got all the way through the list (who ever does?)

But I'm here now.

So, let's get started. I think I'm just going to work my way through the requests. We'll see what happens?! Oh. And there will be one post about breastfeeding...if you're friends with me on Facebook then there is a chance you've already read it, but since I took so much time thinking it through and writing it out, I'd like to post it here too : )

So..I guess I will start with the first "request"....updates about the kiddos. It's been awhile. Always a good thing to do, right?

Makenzie Rose - almost 3 1/2 years old (her 1/2 birthday is in October)
What a wonderful little girl I have been blessed with. She is SO independent...too much so, sometimes. But she is such a wonderful helper. She cares about her whole family so much, especially her brothers. She is now FULLY potty-trained. She has been daytime potty-trained for a long time, but it was finally a few months ago that we successfully mastered night-time. She has NEVER had a nighttime accident...she's done SO well. Kenzie LOVES to go to the "craft store" (Michael's, JoAnn's, etc) and buy things to paint. This is activity that the kids get to do with daddy and they both really enjoy it. Lately, Kenzie has really gotten into pretending to be other people. This week, she has gone back and forth between being Sally from the Cat in the Hat and being "Aunt" Jennifer (a good family friend). If she is Sally, then naturally, Ryken is Nick and Chip is Cat in the Hat. I either get to be the fish or the mother. Very special. If she is "Aunt" Jennifer, it means she is taking care of her baby....baby Sophia. And Ryken, naturally, is "Uncle" Tim. Luckily for Kenzie, Ryken thinks the world of his big sister and is pretty much always willing to "be" whoever she tells him he has to be. Her new "Kenzie-ism" is saying "Be-um-cause". I think it is hilarious that she breaks up the word because with "um" in the middle and she does it ALL of the time. She is already making me more prayerful about our decision to at least start out homeschooling her. She talks about school all of the time and notices schools when we drive by them. She is so outgoing and already has it in her head that "school" is the place to be. I am praying that we will know what is perfect for our little girl. I'm hoping to start some preschool worksheets with her soon....have a little "school time". She loves to learn and I am hoping it will be fun for both of us.

Ryken Chip- just over 2 (his birthday was in July)
Ryken is my little peanut of a boy : ) At his 2 year check up he was 24 1/2 lbs and 32.5in, 11th percentile and 9th percentile respectively. He is a very verbal child, talking in complete sentences and repeating MUCH more than Kenzie did at this age. Kenzie talked well early on, but I think her example has made Ryken even more verbal from early on. He learns things easily and mastered playing on the computer before he turned 2. He knows his colors, animals, ABCs and numbers. He can sing several songs...mostly from their Bible songs CD. His favorite movie is Cars and he almost always has one of the Cars characters in his hand. The past few days he has been attached to the green car- Chick Hicks. He looks for it the second he wakes up (usually in his bed since he HAS to sleep with it too) and he takes it everywhere with him. He is such a sweet boy and LOVES his babies. He is always quick to make sure that the babies and I are greeted with hugs and kisses each morning when we wake up and come out to the living room. Hmmm...what else? He bit his tongue VERY badly 2 days ago...his top 4 middle teeth all went into the middle of his tongue leaving a very deep gash. He has been AMAZING about it though. The first night we gave him ibuprofen before bed. Last night we didn't give him anything and he was making whining/crying out noises from his sleep in the middle of the night, so we gave him some then. But otherwise, he has been such a little trooper. It HAS to hurt and he hasn't been eating quite as much. But he hasn't complained about it at all! Ryken is not interested AT ALL in potty training yet, although I am pretty sure he is completely aware of his bodily functions and is also a great communicator. He just doesn't WANT to do it. At all. So we'll wait. We waited for Kenzie to be interested and lead the way and it totally paid off. So we're going to do the same with Ryken.

The Twins
I never know if I should group them together or not, but it just seems to make sense. Yes, they are two individuals. And I will talk about their own individual quirks. But they also just go together. But it has been fun to see their differences emerge more and more the older they get. They are 7 1/2 months old now. They both started scootching around at about 6 months old and are now full-on crawling. They both started pulling up on things a couple weeks ago and are now standing around furniture and in their cribs several times each day. Casey made this a regular habit a few days before Emery did. They are both good eaters. They eat baby food at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They still nurse 5-6 times a day (and night). They are both happy boys. BUT...if I told you about my baby who blows raspberries, I'd be talking about Emery. I have NEVER seen (or heard) Casey blow raspberries. Emery does it daily, especially when he has a mouthful of babyfood. However, if I told you about my baby who likes to pound on things and bang his toys on things, I would be talking about Casey. This activity is one of "his things". The boys got their bottom teeth within days of each other....it went Casey: bottom left, Emery: bottom left, Emery: bottom right, Casey: bottom right. But then, Casey got his top left tooth. Right on his 7 month birthday. But now, 2 weeks later, Emery STILL shows no sign of either top tooth popping through. So that's another difference right now...3 teeth vs 2 teeth. Emery is my spit-up baby. 90% of the spit-up we deal with comes from Emers. Casey is my biter-baby. If the babies are nursing and one bites, 90% of the time is is Cas-a-roo. There is so much that is the same about them...but little by little, they are revealing their individuality to us : ) Hmm...so I think that's about it on the little boys.

So, that's somewhat of an update....I'll be back again sometime...who knows when! Hoping sooner than later : )

Eenie-Meenie-Miney-Moe

What do I write about first.

I know I've mentioned it before......the way I blog in my head and then never sit down and get the words OUT of my head. When this happens, I start to store up the ideas. As the ideas build up, it gets more and more tiring to think about actually sitting down and blogging.....because then I have to CHOOSE which thing to write about. I know that I will never have time to sit down and write out ALL my blogs at once. So that means I have to PICK something. And I am no good at that. So usually I think about it for awhile, and then decide I'll figure it out later. In the meantime, I write a few more blogs in my head.....just making the problem worse. Luckily...lately my brain has been so fried, that eventually I start to forget some of the ideas, which clears things out a little...but not enough to make the decision-making process easy.

So.....some things I'd LIKE to blog about are:

*Updates on my wee-ones
*Body Image...post twins...or kids...or just as a female in general??
*Running races....literally and figuratively
*Finding balance in life
*Making LOTS o' baby food for 2 hungry boys
*Cake-making
AND more.

I doubt that THIS blog entry will help...but I thought that MAYBE if I stopped AVOIDING my blog every time I thought about blogging and actually sat down and wrote SOMETHING, it would motivate me to sit down and write more often (haha. right. I know, I'm laughing at that too...) I know I can't write about ALL of these things in one sitting....but if I write MORE OFTEN then maybe I can get them all out EVENTUALLY.

Hmmmm...so here is an idea....I doubt anyone even checks this regularly since I am oh-so wonderful about updating (sorry!) BUT if you DO happen to read this and one of the above-mentioned topics catches your eye and you'd like me to hurry up and write about it, then comment. Or if you have something else you want me to write about, comment about that too (because what I REALLY need are MORE ideas for blog posts...right??)

My goal is: By the end of August (11:59pm on August 31st or HOPEFULLY earlier) to have come BACK and written about SOMETHING.

Blogging more = fail.

So...I haven't been so great at updating my blog. Surprise surprise.

Thanks to anyone who still checks in, even when I am so sporadic about posting anything.

Right now, I should be in bed. I'm heading that way shortly...I just wanted to jump on here and say "hey" to anyone who might happen to check in.

Current things in our life:
- Kenzie is doing a GREAT job at swimming. She can't get a breath yet...just swims underwater. But she can go from one side of the pool to the other. I can't believe how big she is getting!

-Ryken is ALMOST 2! How did that happen?! We are in Tucson right now and had a little birthday party with my family for him.....HOPEFULLY I will post pictures of the fun "Cars" cake that my sister and I made for him! I'll TRY to get on that!!

-Emery & Casey are getting cuter by the day! They both get on their knees and rock now....crawling is just around the corner! They are such happy little guys and I can't believe that in just a few short weeks I will have had them out of me for 1/2 a year! It's going by tooooo fast!

Anyway...I know these are all short little updates, but I should have been in bed awhile ago. I hope to be back on here again soon...I was doing so well for awhile. But we'll see. Sometimes changing a kazillion diapers and trying to feed 2 toddlers + 2 babies takes some time....and I guess those things are a little bit higher on the "things to do" list than my loved but sometimes forsaken blog. I'm pretty sure you all understand.

Goodnight! Sleep tight!

I was doing so well : (

There for awhile, I was actually updating REALLY regularly. And then...I don't know what happened.

But I hope to be back soon.

Keep checkin in now and then....a new update on our life is sure to pop up at some point :)

Oh...and Happy 4th of July!!
